Ember: China's passenger EV exports hit 448,000 units worth $9.2 billion in May

Energy think tank Ember counted 448,000 passenger EVs shipped from China in May 2026, about 279,000 battery-electric and 169,000 plug-in hybrids. Their value reached a record US$9.2 billion, up 49% on a year earlier and just above April's US$9.1 billion. Southeast Asia took a record US$1.2 billion of these cars, with Thailand importing 36,811 battery-electric models in the month.
