New energy cars take a record 65.1% of China's retail sales in July

CPCA data show 1.461 million passenger cars sold at retail in China in July 2026, 20.9% fewer than a year earlier. NEV retail fell 3.9% to 951,000 units, yet their share of the market rose to a record 65.1%. Exports moved the other way: 918,000 passenger vehicles went abroad, up 87.8%, and NEVs made up 58.8% of them.
