UK considers matching EU duties on Chinese electric cars

A Sunday Times report said Business Minister Jonathan Reynolds is weighing tariffs on Chinese EVs in line with the EU, which today pay only the standard 10% UK import duty. The government said it was still talking to industry, and China's embassy in London said it opposes discriminatory tariffs. Jato Dynamics data cited by CNBC put Chinese makers' UK market share at 28.1% for January to August 2026, against 12.9% a year earlier.
