China will charge annual vehicle tax on plug-in hybrids and EREVs from 2027
China's Ministry of Finance, the State Taxation Administration and MIIT said on 3 July that plug-in hybrids, including extended-range models, lose their vehicle and vessel tax exemption on 1 January 2027. Battery electric and fuel cell commercial vehicles lose it too, and the halved rate for energy-saving petrol cars ends. Battery electric and fuel cell passenger cars stay outside the tax. The charge covers cars already on the road as well as new ones, at rates each province sets.
